SRINAGAR: In a broad daylight attack, two persons were injured at Block Development Council (BDC) office in Sopore. The BDC Chairperson, Dr Fareeda Khan, has survived the attack but the BDC office is sealed and all her team is trapped inside, reports reaching from Sopore said.

Dr Fareeda Khan, who heads the BDC, told Kashmir Life that she has no idea of what happened but she was told that an attack took place in which some persons have received serious injuries.

Details revealed that Dr Fareeda had called a meeting of the council which was being attended by the councillors and the Sarpanchs of the area. At around 11 am, there was an attack in which three persons received injuries. Two of them are councillors.

The police are tight-lipped but the reports said two of the three persons including an SPO are critical.

The meeting was being held in Lone Complex Sopore, located outside the Sub District Hospital. The injured were identified as Reyaz Ahmad Mir, Shafqat Ahmad and Shamsuddin. Two of them have reportedly died on spot. Shamsuddin has been shifted to Srinagar.

Dr Khan said she is in the office along with her entire team and she has been asked to stay put. “We have all our members including councillors and Panchayat members inside,” she said. “We are around 50.” The entire area is in a tight cordon right now, reports said.
