SRINAGAR: In a dramatic turn of events, a mother-in-law was abandoned in Kashmir after a bitter quarrel with her daughter-in-law during a family trip. The elderly woman, Anari Sheikh (50), was left without cash or a mobile phone and had to be rescued by police, Times of India reported from Kolkotta.

The incident occurred about 12 days ago when Saheb Sheikh (27), his wife, and his mother Anari set off for a trip to Kashmir. However, three days ago, Saheb and his wife returned to their home in Canning, West Bengal, without Anari. This unusual return raised suspicions among relatives and neighbors, prompting Saheb’s aunt to lodge a complaint with the local police.

Upon being detained by officers from the Canning Police Station, the couple confessed to abandoning Anari in Kashmir following a heated argument between her and Saheb’s wife. “Our team rescued her. The couple has been arrested,” confirmed Ram K Mondal, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Canning, to the newspaper.

Anari, who is barely literate and was left in a precarious situation without any means of communication or money, expressed her relief upon being rescued. “I had lost all hope. I’m happy the police rescued me,” she said.

The incident has shocked the local community and raised questions about family dynamics and the responsibilities towards elderly family members. Saheb and his wife are currently in police custody, facing charges for their actions.
