Police on Monday claimed to have arrested a couple for peddling drugs during a naka checking at Mirbazar Qazigund in Kulgam district of south Kashmir and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

The spokesman said that during naka checking at Akhran Bridge Mirbazar, police arrested a couple identified as Sabzar Ahmad Rather alias Raja, son of Abdul Salam Rather,a resident of Mallipora Devsar and his wife (name withheld) for peddling drugs.

Police have also recovered 10 kilograms of poppy straw from their possession. In this regard, police have registered a case under FIR NO 02/2019 under the relevant section of law and initiated investigations in the matter.

Reportedly, the couple is involved in the sale of synthetic drugs at large scale to the local youth of the area, the police spokesman added.
