The Srinagar lower court has accepted the closure report filed by state police which states that Tufail Mattoo’s killers are untraced. Special Mobile Magistrate, Srinagar, Ashwani Kumar Sharma in his orders dated February 27, 2013 said, “The undersigned is in consonance with the investigation of the police final closure report and the same is accepted as not traced.”
But it has also mentioned that the case can be “re-opened and shall be conducted de novo”.
The court had earlier established SIT to investigate into the case and the SIT Tahir Saleem Khan, the SIT head, submitted the report to the lower court before November 30, 2012.
Tufail was hit by a tear gas shell on June 11, 2010. His killing had triggered unrest and about 120 youth were killed in the protests that followed his killing.
