SRINAGAR: A Special Court has permitted two of the five accused in a controversial blog case to avail bail after furnishing bail bonds and a surety. The bail is linked to a set of conditions, however.

Those who were granted bail include Nazish Yasrab Rehman and Javaid Khalid. While Nazish is a resident of Pulwama, Khalid lives in Poonch.

The blog has been running a smear campaign against people in public life including media persons and police have been probing it for many years. On July 17, police arrested five persons including Secretary Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Mohammad Akbar Sofi, for their alleged role in running the blog. Nazish is Sofi’s daughter. His son, Tabish had also been arrested along with Rafiq Makhdoomi, a law student.

Interestingly Nazish was supposed to marry Khalid, days before they were rounded up.

The arrests had taken place under FIR number 82/2020 under sections 13,16,18,20 ULAP Act at Police Station Kothibagh.

The accused duo freed on bail, cannot move out of Jammu and Kashmir, shall not induce witnesses or the prosecution directly or indirectly and shall not temper with the evidence of the prosecution. They cannot change their residence either.
