Three construction labourers from Rajouri were killed in the fake encounter and dubbed militants. They were routinely working in the Shopian belt for various years but in 2020 they became victims of a fake encounter. The residents had strongly doubted the July 18, 2020 encounter story. However, when the family started locating their members, the fake encounter got exposed.

The slain trio were identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed, Abrar Ahmed and Mohammed Ibrar. A Court of Inquiry had held Captain Bhoopendra Singh responsible for the three murders. Now, court-martial proceedings have been initiated against him.

Jammu and Kashmir Police have already filed a charge sheet against the Captain rank officer along with his two civilian accomplices – Tabish Nazir and Bilal Ahmad Lone. The police investigations revealed that the trio had faked an encounter, and destroyed the evidence for cash rewards.
