SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has quashed the detention of a South Kashmir labourer under the contentious Public Safety Act (PSA)

Senior Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak, who represented the detained student, revealed that the court of Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul overturned the detention of 22-year-old labourer Muhammad Ilyas Dar, a resident of Rahpora Khudwani village in Kulgam.

Dar had been apprehended on allegations of engaging in anti-national activities in May 2022 and was simultaneously slapped with a PSA charge. The accused had been incarcerated based on an old FIR filed by Kulgam police in 2021 and is currently held in Haryana jail in Gurgaon.

Following a hearing of arguments by Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak, Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul instructed the authorities to release the detainee. Advocate Tak contended that no substantial evidence was provided even after the detainee’s arrest.
