SRINAGAR: The General Secretary of Kashmir’s major charity, Athrout, has passed away. The 55-year-old died of Covid-19.

Mukhtar Ahmad was the founder member of the Athrout and has been a generous donor and a patient volunteer, according to the NGO founder Bashir Ahmad Nadvi. “He has been with us in the thick and thin,” Nadvi said.

A professional jeweller, Mukhtar Ahmad was running his shop at Nai Kadal. He was a resident of Lal Bazaar in Srinagar.

Mukhtar Ahmad was infected by Covid-19 at his shop. He was admitted to the SKIMS where he fought for life for six days. He passed away at around 2 am, last night.

Mukhtar Ahmad is survived by his wife and two daughters – one got married recently and another is studying at the University of Kashmir. He was laid to rest early Wednesday morning.
