SRINAGAR: In the biggest single-day spike in coronavirus cases, 104 persons tested positive in Ladakh, taking the tally of active cases in the region to 176.

The steep rise has forced the authorities to declare Leh and Kargil districts red zones with effect from tomorrow.

“As many as 104 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Ladakh, out of these 69 are in Kargil district. With this, the number of cases in Ladakh has gone up to 176, comprising 74 persons in Leh district and 102 in Kargil district,” an official said.

With this, the total number of confirmed cases in the UT has reached 239 as at least 62 patients, including 41 from Leh and 21 from Kargil, were cured and discharged from Covid hospitals. A patient, who was a former Union minister, had lost his battle against the deadly virus.
