SRINAGAR: During Covid-19 induced lockdown last year, Falak Aslam rekindled her love for baking cakes which led her to come up with “Bake it Off”, her online bakery store.

Falak Aslam, a resident of Srinagar bakes cakes and cupcakes at her home.

Falak, a resident of Srinagar bakes cakes and cupcakes at her home and provides home delivery service across the city.

She found her inspiration from “Sugar Stars, a television programme, which she watched in her childhood days.

“There was this character in the programme of a young girl, Yolanda Gampp who also used to bake amazing cakes and the idea of baking cakes dawned me,” she said.

Along with baking, Falak is pursuing her Bachelor’s degree from Government Women’s College MA Road Srinagar.

“I was very much fascinated by the art of baking and after watching the show (Sugar Stars) I would often bake for my family and friends and the response was always good which encouraged me to start this initiative,” Falak said.

Falak says her parents would always encourage her to go to some academy to learn this art.

“I couldn’t do it because it was hectic for me to manage the school as well as the academy. I always wanted to learn all of this gradually on my own,” she said.

“I bake cookies, cheesecakes, and muffins as well and I will soon start taking orders for these as well.”

Falak bakes different types of cakes like Chocolate Truffle cake, Chocolate Mousse Cakes, Vanilla Cakes, Butterscotch Cakes,  and Fresh Fruit Cakes.

“I take orders through Instagram as well as Whatsapp. I provide a home delivery service as well. I used to take orders almost every day when I started but now I take 3-4 orders per week because the colleges have been reopened and I don’t get a lot of time for baking.”
