SRINAGAR: After more than a month of lockdown when Jammu and Kashmir is expected to selectively open certain businesses and transport is permitted to operate with half capacity, as many as 29 deaths were reported owing to Covid19 across 20 districts of the erstwhile state. During the last 24 hours, 2256 fresh infections were reported, mostly from Kashmir.

Kashmir lost nine citizens and Jammu 20 in the last 24 hours. Jammu city’s Covid19 casualties reached 1055, the highest in the 20 districts.

But what is rarely being seen is that more people return home from hospitals fully recovered than the new tally of infections. In the last 24 hours, as many as 3805 people recovered thus reducing the number of active cases to 37677. The recoveries included 1454 cases in Jammu and 2351 in Kashmir.

Now the death toll of Covid19 in Jammu and Kashmir is 3870 including 1982 in Kashmir and 1888 in Jammu.

As many as 12 deaths took place in Jammu city and two in Srinagar city, the information revealed by the government said.

The district-wise details suggest that Kashmir lost three citizens each in Kulgam, two in Kupwara, and one each in Budgam and Shopian.

Apart from 12 deaths reported from Jammu city, the region lost three citizens in Rajouri, two each in Udhampur and Ramban and one in Samba.

In the last 24 hours, officials said 2256 new Covid-19 positives were reported from across Jammu and Kashmir. Of them, Srinagar alone accounted for 346. Jammu, the other capital of the erstwhile state reported 332 cases.

Of the new cases detected in the last 24 hours, Kashmir accounts for 1433 cases against 823 of the Jammu division.

In Kashmir, the new cases include 164 from Baramulla, 170 from Budgam, 139 from Pulwama, 77 from Kupwara, 154 from Anantnag, 66 from Bandipora, 190 from Ganderbal, 96 from Kulgam, and 25 from Shopian.

From Jammu, officials said Udhampur reported 50, Rajouri 91, Doda 77, Kathua 32, Samba 25, Kishtwar 16, Poonch 69, Ramban 66, and Reasi 34.

Right now, Jammu and Kashmir has 37677 active cases, which includes 23320 in Kashmir 14357 in Jammu.
