SRINAGAR: In the last 24 hours, Jammu and Kashmir reported 65 fresh deaths and detected 4509 new Covid19 infections. This is despite the fact that the pandemic has literally paralysed everything across the erstwhile state at least for the last 24 hours as a harsh lockdown was in place.

With the fresh toll of 65, the overall death by Covid19 has reached 2912 people. These include 1615 in Kashmir and 1297 in Jammu.

The existing health infrastructure is under massive load. There were grim images of patients moving to the hospitals with their personal or borrowed Oxygen concentrators and cylinders in Kashmir as well as in Jammu. Not many beds are available right now. Massive crowds are reporting to the hospitals and testing centres for mandatory tests and re-tests and inadequate staff is adding to the crisis.

As many as 46 deaths took place in Jammu and 19 in Kashmir divisions, the information revealed by the government said.

Jammu town continues to top the list of the dead for yet another consecutive day. It lost 24 citizens in the last 24 hours. Srinagar, the other capital city lost nine residents.

The district-wise details suggest that Kashmir lost five citizens in Pulwama, two each in Kupwara and Anantnag and one in Kulgam.

Apart from 24 deaths reported from Jammu city, the region lost eight citizens from Rajouri, five from Kathua, three from Samba, two each from Udhampur and Ramban.

In the last 24 hours, officials said 4352 new Covid-19 positives were reported from across Jammu and Kashmir. Of them, Srinagar alone accounted for 846. Jammu, the other capital of the erstwhile state reported 602 cases, apparently not so less than Srinagar city.

Of the new cases detected in the last 24 hours, Kashmir accounts for 2750 cases against 1759 of the Jammu division.

In Kashmir, the new cases include 361 from Baramulla, 322 from Budgam, 282 from Pulwama, 171 from Kupwara, 198 from Anantnag, 85 from Bandipora, 52 from Ganderbal, 269 from Kulgam, and 58 from Shopian.
