SRINAGAR: In the last 24 hours coinciding with the second of Eid, Jammu and Kashmir reported 60 fresh deaths and detected 3027 new Covid19 infections. This is despite the fact that the pandemic has literally paralysed everything across the erstwhile state at least for the last 24 hours as a harsh lockdown was in place. Authorities implemented the lockdown seriously in most of the erstwhile state.
With the fresh toll of 60, the overall death by Covid19 has reached 3027 people. These include 1656 in Kashmir and 1371 in Jammu.
The existing health infrastructure is under massive load. There were grim images of patients moving to the hospitals with their personal or borrowed Oxygen concentrators and cylinders in Kashmir as well as in Jammu. Not many beds are available right now. Massive crowds are reporting to the hospitals and testing centres for mandatory tests and re-tests and inadequate staff is adding to the crisis.
As many as 39 deaths took place in Jammu and 21 in Kashmir divisions, the information revealed by the government said.
Jammu town continues to top the list of the dead for yet another consecutive day. It lost 22 citizens in the last 24 hours. Srinagar, the other capital city lost five residents. For the first in many days, Srinagar got back to a single digit.
The district-wise details suggest that Kashmir lost three each in Baramulla, Kupwara, and Anantnag, two each Pulwama and Kulgam, and one each in Budgam. Bandipora and Ganderbal.
Apart from 22 deaths reported from Jammu city, the region lost four citizens each in Udhampur and Poonch, three each in Kathua and Samba, two in Ramban and one in Doda.
In the last 24 hours, officials said 3027 new Covid-19 positives were reported from across Jammu and Kashmir. Of them, Srinagar alone accounted for 379. Jammu, the other capital of the erstwhile state reported 534 cases.
Of the new cases detected in the last 24 hours, Kashmir accounts for 1516 cases against 1511 of the Jammu division.
In Kashmir, the new cases include 124 from Baramulla, 308 from Budgam, 167 from Pulwama, 140 from Kupwara, 97 from Anantnag, 100 from Bandipora, 98 from Ganderbal, 72 from Kulgam, and 31 from Shopian.
From Jammu, officials said Udhampur reported 221, Rajouri 138, Doda 40, Kathua 197, Samba 154, Kishtwar 48, Poonch 61, Ramban 52, and Reasi 66.
Right now, Kashmir has 32646 active positive cases and Jammu has 19355, slightly less than half of Kashmir.
