SRINAGAR: With the lockdown in force for the 29th day, the fast mutating Covid19 virus is exhibiting low infection numbers as the morbidity is gradually going down. But officials say it is early to push the unlock button.

In the last 24 hours, Jammu and Kashmir lost 40 people as fresh 3037 cases were detected across 20 districts of the erstwhile state.

Kashmir lost 21 citizens and Jammu 19 in the last 24 hours. However, Jammu city got its casualty figure in 4-digits.

But what is rarely being seen is that more people return home from hospitals fully recovered than the new tally of infections. In the last 24 hours, as many as 4023 people recovered thus reducing the number of active cases to 43892. The recoveries included 1770 cases in Jammu and 2253 in Kashmir.

Now the death toll of Covid19 in Jammu and Kashmir is 3702 people including 1918 in Kashmir and 1784 in Jammu.

As many as nine deaths took place in Jammu city and six in Srinagar city, the information revealed by the government said. The overall death toll of Jammu city is now 1003, which is higher if compared to Srinagar city’s 751 deaths in the Covid19, so far.

The district-wise details suggest that Kashmir lost four citizens each in Baramulla, and Pulwama , three each in Anantnag and Kupwara, and one in Ganderbal.

Apart from nine deaths reported from Jammu city, the region lost three citizens in Kathua, two in Doda and one each in Udhampur, Rajouri, Samba, Kishtwar and Reasi.

In the last 24 hours, officials said 3037 new Covid-19 positives were reported from across Jammu and Kashmir. Of them, Srinagar alone accounted for 493. Jammu, the other capital of the erstwhile state reported 445 cases.

Of the new cases detected in the last 24 hours, Kashmir accounts for 1819 cases against 12145 of the Jammu division.

In Kashmir, the new cases include 260 from Baramulla, 197 from Budgam, 145 from Pulwama, 153 from Kupwara, 212 from Anantnag, 89 from Bandipora, 219 from Ganderbal, 117 from Kulgam, and 63 from Shopian.

From Jammu, officials said Udhampur reported 83, Rajouri 126, Doda 91, Kathua 82, Samba 46, Kishtwar 35, Poonch 66, Ramban 99, and Reasi 16.

Right now, Jammu and Kashmir has 43892 active cases, which includes 26168 in Kashmir 17724 in Jammu.
