SRINAGAR: In the last 24 hours, Jammu and Kashmir reported 54 fresh deaths and detected 5191 new Covid19 infections. This is despite the fact that the pandemic has literally paralysed everything across the erstwhile state.

With the fresh toll of 54, the overall death by Covid19 has reached 2726 people. These include 1533 in Kashmir and 1139 in Jmamu.

The existing health infrastructure is under massive load. There were grim images of patients moving to the hospitals with their personal or borrowed Oxygen concentrators and cylinders in Kashmir as well as in Jammu. Not many beds are available right now. Massive crowds are reporting to the hospitals and testing centers for mandatory tests and re-tests and inadequate staff is adding to the crisis.

As many as 32 deaths took place in Jammu and 22 in Kashmir divisions, the information revealed by the government said.

Jammu town continues to top the list of the dead for yet another consecutive day. It lost 19 citizens in the last 24 hours. Srinagar, the other capital city lost 11 residents.

The district-wise details suggest that Kashmir lost three citizens each in Kupwara, Ganderbal, two in Bandipore and one each in Baramulla, Budgam, and Kulga.

Apart from 32 deaths reported from Jammu city, the region lost seven citizens from Rajouri, two each in Kathua and Poonch,  and one each in Udhampur and Kishtwar.

In the last 24 hours, officials said 5190 new Covid-19 positives were reported across Jammu and Kashmir. Of them, Srinagar alone accounted for 920. This is for the second time that the number has fallen to a 3-digit figure. Jammu, the other capital of the erstwhile state reported 620 cases.

Of the new cases detected in the last 24 hours, Kashmir accounts for 3420 cases against 1770 of the Jammu division.

In Kashmir, the new cases include 454 from Baramulla, 508 from Budgam, 158 from Pulwama, 277 from Kupwara, 415 from Anantnag, 85 from Bandipora, 135 from Ganderbal, 281 from Kulgam, and 187 from Shopian.

From Jammu, officials said Udhampur reported 172, Rajouri 210, Doda 30, Kathua 237, Samba 134, Kishtwar 32, Poonch 64, Ramban 70, and Reasi 123.

Right now, Kashmir has 31986 active positive cases and Jammu has 17262, slightly less than half of Kashmir.
