Police arrested many separatist leaders and activists during nocturnal raids Saturday in the district Budgam, to stop possible protests on the eve of Lok Sabha Election Day.

Sources said that police raided dozens of residences in Budgam, Srinagar and Ganderbal districts to arrest the separatist activists.

They added that many arrests were made during the nocturnal raids including Syed Imtyaz Hyder of Hurriyat (G), and Mohammad Yasin Attai of Hurriyat (JK).

Sources said that some suspected stone pelters have also been arrested in Srinagar and Budgam.

Police is busy making arrangements for smooth elections in Srinagar, Budgam and Gandebal districts.

The election for the central Kashmir seat is scheduled on April 30.

Earlier, in the week on April, 24, police had to face severe protests in South Kashmir’s Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam and Islamabad districts when election was held for Islamabad seat.

Pertinently, all the frontline separatist leaders are facing detention from middle of the current month. They include Syed Ali Geelani, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Ahmad Shah and Nayeem Ahmad Khan. Separatists allege that at least three hundred of their activists have been arrested since early April.
