SRINAGAR: A portion of a road along the Jhelum River in Hajin town of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district has collapsed after developing cracks over the past few days, prompting authorities to restrict traffic movement, officials said.
The situation has caused panic among locals, who had been raising concerns about the deteriorating condition of the road.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri said that traffic on the road has been restricted as a precautionary measure.
He also said that teams from the Irrigation and Flood Control Department have been mobilised to provide temporary solutions. “The formal tendering process for the project will be completed this week, and restoration work on the road is expected to begin soon,” he said.
Locals said they had noticed cracks developing over the past few days, but today a portion of the road collapsed completely, creating fear among residents. (KNO)
