SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against a Srinagar resident and a former Patwari, now deceased, in connection with an alleged attempt to fraudulently grab land and obtain building permission using forged documents.
The chargesheet in FIR No. 08/2016 was filed before the Court of the Sub-Judge, Srinagar, under Sections 420/511, 167, 471 and 120-B of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
The accused has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Ahmad Malik, a resident of Barapather, Haft Chinar, Srinagar, and the then Patwari, who has since died.
According to the Crime Branch, the case originated from a complaint alleging that the accused had conspired to illegally acquire land falling under Khasra No. 642 and secure building permission from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation by producing forged documents.
An investigation was subsequently initiated, during which the allegations were found to be substantiated, the agency said. The probe allegedly uncovered fraudulent documentation, concealment and misrepresentation of material facts, as well as misuse of official position.
The investigation has been concluded as “proved”, and the chargesheet has been submitted before the competent court for judicial determination.
The Crime Branch has urged members of the public to remain alert to economic fraud and report suspicious activities to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Economic Offences Wing Kashmir. Complaints can also be submitted through the official email address of the EOW Kashmir.
