SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, has filed a charge sheet against four accused in connection with an alleged cheating case involving shawls worth more than Rs 2.50 crore, officials said on Thursday.
The charge sheet in FIR No. 55/2022, registered under Sections 420, 120-B and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), was filed before the Court of the Sub Judge, Small Causes, Srinagar following the completion of the investigation.
The accused have been identified as Arshid Ahmad Shora alias Bilal, son of Late Abdul Rashid Shora, a resident of Pakhribal Botakadal, Lalbazar; Firdous Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Rehman Mir, originally from Abikarpora, Rainawari, and presently residing at Madina Colony near R.P. School, Mallabagh; Firdous Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Afzal Bhat, a resident of Amda Kadal, Lalbazar; and Aftab Ahmad Shah, son of Parvaiz Ahmad Shah, a resident of Khawabazar, Nowhatta, all in Srinagar.
According to the Crime Branch, the case arose from a complaint alleging that the accused, led by Arshid Ahmad Shora alias Bilal, induced the complainant to supply shawls worth over Rs 2.50 crore by promising profitable returns but subsequently failed to make payment.
During the course of the investigation, the EOW recovered 338 shawls valued at approximately Rs 68 lakh, which were handed over to the complainant under the directions of the competent court.
Officials said the investigation has now been completed and the charge sheet has been presented before the court for further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch Kashmir has urged the public to remain vigilant against economic frauds and report any suspicious financial activities to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir.
