SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir on Tuesday arrested a serving Patwari, identified as Khursheed Ahmad Bhat of Fatehpora Ganderbal, in connection with a multi-crore land scam.
According to officials, Bhat is the prime accused in a case involving fraudulent sale of 7 kanals and 2 marlas of land in Mouza Nuner, Ganderbal. The land belonged to a migrant Kashmiri Pandit and was held under power of attorney by another party.
Investigations revealed that Bhat, along with others, posed as landowners and executed a fake sale agreement. The complainant had already paid Rs 1.19 crore out of an agreed Rs 2.76 crore before the fraud came to light.
Preliminary inquiry has established a criminal conspiracy involving impersonation and use of forged documents, officials said.
A case under Sections 420, 468, 471, and 120-B of IPC has been registered at Police Station Economic Offences Wing. Further investigation is under way
