SRINAGAR

After remaining suspended for two weeks due to weather-prone road, Cross-LoC trade resumed on Tuesday when 25 Muzaffarabad-bound truckloads left Salaamabad for Chakothi.

Two weeks before, a landslide at Chanari on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road had halted the trade.

“Authorities were since then clearing the road,” a local Showkat Khan told Kashmir Life. “The road was cleared for the vehicular movement yesterday only.”

Significantly, Cross-LoC trade frequently faces hiccups owing to fair-weather road susceptible to erosions, shooting stone and landslides.

“But every time the trade halts, the traders suffer huge losses,” Hilal Turkey, General Secretary, Cross-Loc Trade, told Kashmir Life. “This time as well, we suffer a loss of around Rs 35 lakh.”

Turkey said that most Muzaffarabad-bound trucks were loaded with fresh fruits that rotted during two week’s halt.
