Days after it was reported that police have registered an attempt to murder case against Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for killing Gowhar Ahmad Dar of Mustafabad HMT, Inspector General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Atul Karwal, Wednesday said that CRPF cannot be held responsible till the investigation is not completed.

“It will be wrong to say that CRPF was involved in the Killing of Mustafabad youth.  I can tell you that Police FIR is not against the CRPF but it is the legal requirement when somebody comes to police and lodges complaint. I suggest that we should wait till the magisterial enquiry reveals the facts,” Karwal told KNS over phone.

Police are claimed to have registered an attempt to murder case against the CRPF for killing of a pedestrian (Gowhar) and not a stone-thrower in Mustafabad (Zainakote area) of Srinagar on Saturday.

Dar, an engineering student of SSM, was killed by forces in Zainakote in Srinagar outskirts on Saturday barely few hours after Prime Minister left Srinagar after addressing his much-hyped rally here.

The IGP further said that CRPF is also probing the incident. “CRPF is also investigating the incident. This needs to be properly investigated. Our camp was attacked with stones. We had reports that the mob tried to enter the camp and also damaged a boundary wall. There is no doubt that the incident was unfortunate. But I must tell you that our forces did not violate any SOP while dealing with the law and order problem,” the IGP claimed.

He said that, if at all, any CRPF personnel is found involved, the action according to the law will be taken against him. “I assure you that if at all any CRPF personnel is found involved the action will be taken against him,” he said.
