Residents of Shopian especially the fruit growers Monday alleged that CRPF men deployed in and around different hamlets of Shopian are damaging the apple orchards that has become a cause of concern for the people.

People alleged that CRPF men deployed in different hamlets of Shopian including Saidapora, Gagrin, Wahil, Kilora, Zawoora, Batapora, Chanapora and Memandar have damaged apple orchards and have even plucked apples in a haphazard manner from the trees.

“They have damaged so many apple trees and even the fencing of my orchard has been removed by these CRPF personnel,” one of the residents of Shopian, Molvi Syed Zeenat-ul-Islam told CNS.

Shopian residents said that continuous curfew and restrictions have marred fruit industry. “Its apple season but the uninterrupted curfew has damaged this season. Fruits are lying rotten in Shopian and Arhama Mandi. We are not able to pick and pack them,” another resident said.

The residents alleged that CRPF men are not allowing farmers to visit their orchards even in those hamlets where situation is normal.
