A scribe working for a local news agency was beaten to pulp in North Kashmir’s Baramullah District on Sunday.

According to Current News Service (CNS),  Anzar Mehjoor working for a Srinagar based news gathering agency was stopped by CRPF personnel at Cement Bridge, Baramulla and was thrashed in presence of officers present on the duty, without any reason.

“To restrict the movement of the people, CRPF had blocked Cement Bridge. When, I tried to cross the bridge, four CRPF personnel caught hold of me and beat me like anything. They hit me with gun butts and thrashed me continuously for about ten minutes with checking my identity card,” Mehjoor told CNS adding that the irony was that all this was done in presence of police and CRPF officers.

He said CRPF personnel let him go only after the women folk raised hue and cry and scores of youth came on roads and pelted stones on men in uniform.
