Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani Monday demanded the release of youths who have been detained under various cases and all other political prisoners before the Eid.

In a statement issued here, Geelani said that the police had intensified the “atrocities” against the Kashmiri people in every nock and corner of the state in this holy month of Ramadan and have made the lives of the people hell. “Some people complained to me that the police is deliberately doing this in the view of Eid so that the police officers could demand hefty sums in the name of ‘Eidi’ against the release of the youths.”

Syed Ali Geelani said that the Kashmir police is not only at war with their own people but this department has become a “corrupt institution” from top to bottom. “It has taken the shape of organized corruption mafia and every police station has appointed two to four brokers who play a mediators role between the police and the public and who negotiate the deals.”

Syed Ali Geelani said that this corruption has rusted the abilities of police to deliver their professional duties and instead of protecting the lives, property and honour of the people, they have become headache for the public.

Hurriyat (g) chairperson said that the “cruel” attitude of the police has spread “wave of harassment” and threat among the people and they hate this department the most.
