Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir Monday inaugurated the two-day food cum cultural festival “Darbaar” at the Nowgam-I academic campus of the varsity here.

In the fest, jointly organized by the Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW) and the School of Business Studies (SBS), the students set up different food stalls, showcasing the multicultural cuisine of the valley and the Kashmiri handicrafts.

The students and faculty members of different departments and senior administrative staff of the varsity thronged the 12 stalls and relished the mouth watering delicacies and also purchased the handicraft goods at the reasonable prices. Photography competition and fun games were part of the festivities in which the students also participated in huge numbers. Some of the students also mesmerized the audiences with live performances and received huge applause from the listeners.

Addressing the gathering comprising Deans of different Schools, Heads and Coordinators of various departments, faculty members and students, Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir lauded the students and the organizers for holding such a gala event. He said that despite tight content transaction schedule, the students have been successful in organizing the festival. Prof Mehraj ud Din complimented the students for not skipping their classes in the run up to organizing of the event. “I am highly impressed with the students show and assure them that a mega event like this would be held after the examination,” Vice-Chancellor added.

In Charge Registrar and Controller of Examinations, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Gilkar appreciated the students for smoothly organizing the festival. He said the university is trying to produce start ups and organizing the event was one of the steps towards it. Dr. Gilkar also hailed the faculty members and administrative staff for their support in holding the event.

Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. S. Fayyaz while addressing the gathering described the event as a part of academic activity. He said that the university has to use innovative methods and techniques to bring business into the classrooms of certain specialized courses, adding that holding of the event was one of the step in that direction.

Head of the Department, MBA, Prof Farooq Ahmad Shah, while speaking on the occasion, said the students deserved kudos as they didn’t missed a single class while preparing for this multi-dimensional event. He said the holding of such an event has created a history in the Central University of Kashmir.

Director DSW, Dr Fayaz A Nikka while welcoming the guests gave a detailed account about the two day programme. He said the event was being held to sensitize the students about the ways and means to start their own entrepreneurial units after passing out from the varsity. Dr. Nikka said the DSW has the mandate to hone the skills and capabilities of the students so that they excel in their respective fields.

Cultural Coordinator, Dr Ihsan Malik conducted the programme proceedings while as MBA student, Mohsin presented the vote of thanks.
