The Central University of Kashmir Teachers Association (CUKTA) organised its fourth General Body Meeting (GBM) on Wednesday in the Campus 1 of CUK.

The spokesman said that it was the first meeting of the teacher’s body a week after its second praesidium was elected. The meeting was presided by the newly elected president of CUKTA Shahnaz Bashir who is the senior faculty in its Department of Convergent Journalism. Shahnaz and his other colleagues in the Presidium Vice President Anil Kumar, Secretary Ishrat Bashir, and Treasurer Ramjit were elected unopposed.

He said that out of a total number of seventy-five, the GBM was attended by fifty five faculty members from the eighteen departments of the university including senior professors Dr Abdul Gani (Dean Research and Development), Professor Ghulam Muhammad Bhat (Dean Social Sciences and Director Campus 3), Professor Syed Fayaz Ahmad (Dean School of Business Studies), Professor Farooq Ahmad Shah (Head Department of Management Studies), Professor Sheikh Showkat Hussain (Dean School of Legal Studies), erstwhile prssident CUKTA Professor Fayaz Ahmad Nikka and other faculty memebers from all its campuses.

The GBM elected its Executive Committee for the second tenure of the CUKTA and also discussed various issues faced by the teachers of the university. The teacher’s body vowed to maintain a healthy relationship with the university administration and help the university to work for the progress of the CUK. “We will not only represent our genuine rights but also extend any help to our university to work towards progress,” President in chair Shahnaz Bashir said while addressing the gathering.

The meeting started with the erstwhile president’s address and ended with the teachers of the university vowing to celebrate September 5, Teachers Day and CUKTA Establishment Day in the university. The GBM was moderated by Secretary CUKTA Ishrat Bashir.
