SRINAGAR: The political class in Kashmir, irrespective of party affiliations, expressed condolences following the passing of veteran broadcaster and Sahitya Academy-honoured poet, Farooq Nazki, on Tuesday.

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Party President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of the eminent writer.

In his message, Dr Farooq said, “Heard about Nazki sahib’s passing with profound grief and sorrow. He will be remembered for his pre-eminent contribution to the fields of literature and broadcasting in a profound manner. Today the literary circles of Kashmir have suffered a great loss. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace. My condolences to his loved ones in this hour of grief.”

In his message Omar Abdullah said, “I am saddened to hear about the passing of eminent writer-broadcaster Farooq Nazki sahib. My sincere condolences and sympathies to his family  and numerous admirers. A well-known name in the contemporary literary world of Kashmir, Nazki sahib had established himself among the front-line urdu poets of the country. He had also added new metaphors, Modernism, and positivity to Kashmiri poetry through his subtle and deft use of words and ideas.”

JK PDP in a post X wrote: “Deeply saddened by the loss of Faruq Nazki. His words were a beacon of light in the world of literature. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace.” 

CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said the departure of Farooq Nazki has left a significant void in the literary community of the region. “Farooq Nazki, a veteran writer, poet, and scholar, is no longer with us. He served as the head of radio and Doordarshan Kendra during challenging times. His departure has left a significant void in the literary community of the region,” Tarigami stated.

In his message of condolence, Chairman DPAP, Ghulam Nabi Azad, shared on X, expressed: “Deeply saddened to learn about the demise of the living legend Farooq Nazki sahib. His literary brilliance & media presence were unparalleled. His contribution in the field of broadcasting and literature will have an everlasting impact on our cultural and literary treasure. I pray for his peace & offer condolence to his family.”

Peoples Conference President Sajad Gani Lone also extended his deepest condolences on the passing of former Director Doordarshan and AIR Srinagar, Farooq Nazki.

In his condolence message, Lone stated that Farooq Nazki’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter in the cultural and media landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. “A luminary in poetry, broadcasting and media, Farooq Nazki’s eloquent verses and steadfast commitment to his craft earned him widespread respect,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Tuesday expressed profound grief over the passing away of veteran Broadcaster Farooq Nazki and expressed heartfelt condolences and sympathies with family and friends of the deceased.

In a statement, Pradesh Congress Committee Spokesperson termed the passing away of Farooq Nazki a great loss to the people of JK. “The renowned Broadcaster and Sahitya Academy honored Poet (Nazki) will always be remembered for his acumen, head and heart qualities. Nazki Saheb always used his pen in the right direction and never compromised on his principles,” the JKPCC Spokesperson said.

In his statement, Apni Party President, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, said, “Today, we mourn the loss of Farooq Nazki Sahib, a true son of the soil. His legacy as a distinguished poet, broadcaster, and media personality will forever inspire, and his contribution towards society, literature, and the Kashmiri language will always be remembered. His passing is a profound loss to the overall society of Jammu and Kashmir.”

“May Almighty Allah grant him Jannah and his family the strength to endure this profound loss,” Mr. Bukhari prayed.

Former Union Minister and Congress Leader Prof Saifuddin Soz here on Tuesday expressed his profound grief and sorrow over the passing of Farooq Nazki, the revered poet, broadcaster, and former director of Doordarshan and All India Radio

In his heartfelt condolence message, Prof. Soz expressed deep shock and sorrow at the passing of Farooq Nazki Sahib. He said, “Nazki’s demise represents not only a significant loss for the Kashmiri and Urdu languages but also a profound setback for Kashmir’s broader cultural heritage and values. He was a stalwart custodian of Kashmiri identity, and his profound tolerance epitomised the essence of him being a devout Muslim and a proud Kashmiri. Prof Soz praised his unwavering dedication to tolerance and brotherhood, which served as a guiding beacon during challenging times.
