SRINAGAR: The Cyber Cells in Ganderbal and Sopore have made significant strides in combating cybercrime, recovering stolen assets and preventing financial fraud amounting to millions of rupees in 2024.
In Ganderbal, the Cyber Cell, established in March 2024, has recovered Rs 16 lakhs worth of stolen or lost smartphones and accounted for Rs 17 lakhs in financial frauds. Among the 87 recovered mobile phones, 74 have already been returned to their rightful owners, with the remaining 13 handed over in a special ceremony on December 31. In financial fraud cases, Rs 3.78 lakhs were credited back to victims’ accounts.
The Cyber Cell also resolved 56 cases involving blackmail and social media account hacking, providing much-needed relief to affected individuals. Speaking at the ceremony, SSP Ganderbal reaffirmed the police’s commitment to combating cybercrime and launched a 24/7 cyber helpline at 9541786772 to assist victims promptly.
Meanwhile, the Cyber Cell in Sopore achieved remarkable success in addressing online financial fraud throughout the year. It recovered Rs 22.23 lakhs and saved Rs 37.14 lakhs from being defrauded. Responding to 113 complaints of fraudulent transactions, the Cyber Police also tackled multiple cases of social media crimes, ensuring the safety of users in the digital realm.
These achievements underscore the growing importance of addressing cyber threats in an increasingly digital world. The proactive measures by the Cyber Cells in Ganderbal and Sopore highlight their commitment to safeguarding financial and digital security, reassuring the public of swift and effective action against cybercriminals
