Akbar Khan, the Narbal cyclist whom NC leader Omar Abdullah gifted a cycle has won third position in a national cycling event, reports said.

“The cycle donated by @abdullah_omar is proving very lucky for AkbarKhan who came 3rd at National Level Cyclethone in Chandigarh. Congrats,” Tanvir Sadiq, Omar’s aide wrote on twitter. He has released a photograph as well suggesting he got cash reward of Rs 45000.

Omar had donated Akbar Khan a professional “Merida Reacto” 5000 bicycle worth Rs 2.8 lakh in June 2016. A national and international level cycling athlete Khan lacked access to such a sophisticated basic for his career.

“Despite hardships he managed his way into International arena and he deserves all possible support and encouragement,” Omar said on June 13, when he donated the cycle. Then, Khan was selected as the first ever cyclist from J&K to an International event. Interestingly, he is the second ever national medalist for the State in cycling.
