The application deadline varies depending on the chosen course, with the last deadline in December 2024.

Eligible candidates can pursue one or two-year postgraduate courses, with opportunities for both master’s and PhD programs.

The scholarship covers a wide range of fields, including economic sciences, business administration, political economics, development cooperation, engineering and related sciences, regional and urban planning, agricultural and forest systems, natural and environmental sciences, medicine and public health, social sciences, education, law, and media studies.

To be eligible for the DAAD scholarship, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree (usually a four-year course) in an appropriate subject, have at least two years of professional experience, and show a commitment to development, social responsibility, and the ability to initiate and support processes of change in their personal and professional environment after their training.

Applicants should have completed their last academic degree no more than six years before application and be from eligible countries.

The application process requires several documents, including a signed DAAD application form with the current date, a personally signed CV (using the Europass format) with the current date, a personally signed letter of motivation (two pages maximum) with the current date, a letter of recommendation from the current employer (on letterhead, with signature and official stamp), certificates of employment from employers proving a minimum of two years of relevant working experience, proof of language skills (IELTS or TOEFL for English; German proficiency for courses taught in German), and copies of academic degrees and transcripts (certified translations if necessary).

Applicants must select a course and apply to the universities offering it. Each applicant can select up to three courses. Complete applications with all required documents should be sent directly to the selected universities, as applications sent to DAAD directly will not be considered. A selection committee will evaluate the applications and select scholars for the program. DAAD will contact selected applicants to submit their complete application to the DAAD Portal, and the DAAD will provide the portal link via email.
