Srinagar: Casual labours working under Urban Local Body Municipal Corporation, Kashmir on Wednesday held a protest demonstration outside press enclave, Srinagar.
The protestors were demanding regularisation of daily wagers working in the corporation for last 14 years, “we are protesting against the implementation of SRO 520, we have survived with the meagre salaries till now, why isn’t govt paying any heed towards us,” said an anguish protestor.
Abdul Hamid Peer while carrying a broom in his hand said that “We are poor people who work day and night in extreme conditions but the government has never taken us seriously.”
He also said that the wages they are being provided are not sufficient for their livelihood.
“We are around 3500 workers, despite working round the clock we were never acknowledged by the government,” said Shabir Ahmed, another Protestant.
