President, Doctors Association Kashmir(DAK), Dr G M Mir has expressed serious concern over the quality of drugs supplied by Jammu and Kashmir Medical Sales Corporation(JLMSCL).

According to the statement of DAK, “various drugs which were tested in labs have been found not of standard quality which has raised questions about the quality of these drugs.”

Dr Mir said that on one hand government is pressing doctors very hard to prescribe these drugs but on other hand the quality of these drugs is being compromised.

“Recently metformin and glimipride drugs which are being used for diabetes management were being found substandard,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that recently government G B Pant hospital was supplied steroids instead of antibiotics as they were wrongly labelled which exposes the causal and callous attitude of drug authorities.

Dr Mir has further said that government cannot cheat people in the name of free drugs and compromise the quality standards of these drugs.

“It is surprising that inspite these revelations which have been highlighted by media, no action has been taken against anybody.”

DAK demands that a thorough investigation should be conducted by an independent agency and responsibility fixed and those found guilty must be punished at the earliest.

Dr Mir further said that both people and doctors have lost faith in these drugs and are hence hesitant to prescribe these medicines
