Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) President, Dr Suhail Naik on Tuesday condemned the attack on a Senior Consultant in the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Sher – i – Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Bemina.

“The unfortunate incident happened on Monday when the senior Consultant was examining patients along with other doctors in Out Patient Department (OPD)were a person who is working in some medical franchise barged inside the OPD room at the time when female patients were being examined. The said person was asked to move out from the OPD chambers as males are not allowed inside the Gynaecology OPD, who in turn abused, harassed and heckled the doctors. The said attendant threatened the doctors that he being working in medical franchise should be issued Ante Natal Card (ANC) and his patient examined out of turn,” the DAK said in a statement.

Dr Suhail Naik termed the incident as very unfortunate and further said that “We have repeatedly been asking government to bring an ordinance against violence on doctors but our repeated pleas have gone to deaf ears. Government probably is waiting for some big mishap to take place, and then only they will probably act.”

A delegation of DAK led by its Vice President Dr Mohd Ashraf, Senior Executive Member, Dr Arif and Chief Spokesperson Dr Irshad Muntazir met the SKIMS authorities and stressed upon them to file an immediate FIR in the matter so that these type of incidents are not repeated in future.
