The PDP-BJP government started functioning from Civil Secretariat Srinagar this morning for next six months after shifting from winter capital Jammu in biannual Darbar Move practice.
Raj Bhavan, Civil Secretariat and other offices closed in Jammu on April 29 and reopened here.
The government will function in the summer capital till late October and then move to the winter capital of the state, in the first week of November.
Authorities had made all necessary arrangements to ensure smooth functioning of the offices in the Kashmir Valley.
“All preparations and arrangements like accommodation of move employees and other requirements have been made. We have been working to provide proper sanitation in Estates colonies in the Civil Line areas of the city where government employees and other officials stay,” Dr Lone told KNS.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was accorded traditional ‘Guard of Honour’ on her arrival at the civil secretariat by Jammu and Kashmir Police contingent.
Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh and other members of the Council of Ministers were also present on the occasion.
While most of the Kashmir-based government employees associated with the Civil Secretariat and other departments have already arrived from the last weeks, Jammu-based employees have started arriving here from the last four days, an official of the secretariat said.
The administration has been busy from the last two weeks in giving the summer capital a facelift, to ensure completion of all repair and renovation work. Road crossings and barricades have been painted in several areas to give a feeling to official and ministers that all is well with the development in the city.
The Assembly secretariat is also gearing up for making preparations for the upcoming budget session.
Durbar move is a century-old tradition from the Dogra rule in the state, takes place twice a year as the administration shifts between Jammu and Srinagar in view of weather conditions, burdening the state with huge financial expenditure.
