SRINAGAR: Jailed separatist Shabir Ahmad Shah’s daughter, Sama Shabir, disassociated herself from her father’s Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) on Thursday, declaring her allegiance to the sovereignty of the Union of India.

In a public notice published in a local newspaper, she underscored her allegiance as a loyal Indian citizen and clearly disassociated herself from the proscribed separatist group established by her father, presently incarcerated in Tihar Jail.

“I am a loyal citizen of India and I am not affiliated with any person or organisation which is against the sovereignty of the Union of India,” the 23-year-old Sama Shabir, the elder daughter of Shah, said in the notice.

In a separate notice, Ruwa Altaf, granddaughter of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, distanced herself from her grandfather’s banned separatist organisation, the Hurriyat Conference, emphasising her loyalty to India. She stated that she has no affiliation with any group opposing the Union of India and pledged allegiance to the Indian Constitution.

“I do not have any connection or affiliation with Hurriyat Conference (G) run by my grandfather Syed All Shah Geelani and I don’t have any inclination or sympathy towards the ideology of the organisation. Any use of my name for this organization shall be liable to legal action from my side,” the notice reads.
