Curfew is strictly imposed in south town of Pulwama on the third consecutive day Sunday, after more than 15 people were injured in clashes with government forces on Friday.

“Curfew is going on in Pulwama and it is continuing only to maintain law and order,” a police spokesman told Kashmir Life. Official sources said that district administration is apprehensive about the situation and the decision to continue with the restrictions was taken in a high level meeting on Saturday.

Two local militant were killed and three government forces personnel including an army officer sustained injuries in an encounter between militants and forces in Chandpora(Babgam) village of district Pulwama on Friday.

The slain militants were identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed Teli @ Fahadullah Kashmiri resident of Pulwama and Mohammad Aamir Bhat @ Khalid @ Khursheed resident of Shopian. During the encounter, one Major, one captain of army and a policeman were also injured.

There were violent protest demonstrations in Chandgam and Pulwama during and after the encounter resulting in injuries to more than fifteen civilians. To curb the protests in the town, forces had resorted to firing as well adding to the tension. Smelling law and order problem the district authorities had imposed curfew on Friday afternoon which is going on without any relaxation.

“The Curfew is still imposed very strictly and the people are not being allowed to move out of their homes,” a local said to Kashmir Life on phone.
