Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology, Chaudhary Lal Singh on Friday said the engagement of civil society is imperative to maintain peace across Jammu and Kashmir.

While appealing people of the State to remain calm, the Minister said that Government is taking all measures to reach out to affected people and victims of violence, an official spokesperson said this evening.

“I appeal people of my State to remain calm and maintain peace,” he said during a review meeting of officers of Department at his official residence here today.

Ch Lal Singh sought cooperation of civil society members and religious leaders in maintaining peace and harmony across the region.

“For maintaining peace and tranquillity, peoples’ cooperation is must,” he said. He said that peace and harmony are imperative for meeting the aspirations of the people and civil society has indispensable role in achieving this goal.

He said the government is taking various measures for maintaining peace and restoring normalcy across the region.

The Minister said that Government is making every effort to provide uninterrupted supplies of essentials to Kashmir valley and other far flung areas.

The people have reposed trust and hope on the coalition Government and it would work for bringing a peaceful environment in the State, he maintained.

Ch Lal Singh expressed anguish over the loss of innocent lives and offered condolences to the families of youth killed in recent law and order situation. “I am deeply anguished over the loss of precious lives in the recent incidents of violence in Kashmir, I also pray for the speedy recovery of those injured during unrest,” he said.
