Director Technical Board of Education, Shabnum Shah Kamili, Monday said that “to appear or not to appear” in examinations “is the personal choice of students” and authorities will not force any student against their choices.
“We have respect for the personal choice of students. It is their choice to appear or not to appear in the examinations,” she told KNS.
Speaking about the protests that were held by students at Bemina, she said: “the total number of students who had to appear in examination is 1400. Out of this, only 400 students opted for not to appear in exams.”
She added that later some students who first chose not to appear in exams, “approached” officials and said, “they want to write upcoming papers.”
She said that out of 1400 students, 370 Kashmiri students have opted to appear in Jammu centres.
Pertinently, scores of students of Polytechnic Engineering Colleges on Monday morning staged massive protests against the Board of Technical Education (BOTE) for holding examinations of 6th semester students.
Interestingly, BOTE had issued official dates for 6th semester examinations two weeks ago on its website and asked the students to appear in the exams, beginning October 17.
However, the students had opposed the department move saying they were not prepared for the exams in view of prevailing Kashmir situation.
