Appreciating the positive and pro-active role of women in Kashmir’s struggle for self-determination since 1931, Hurriyat Conference (m) on Wednesday paid rich tributes to the boldness, courage and conviction of the women of Kashmir.

“Our daughters, sisters and mothers are once again at the fore front of the current phase of the freedom struggle. Despite being most affected by the oppression perpetuation by the state having to cope with the loss of their brothers, husbands and sons which puts them face to face with tremendous suffering and hardships they are equally conscious and supportive of the justness of their cause and play an active role in its furtherance,” the Hurriyat Conference said.

“During the current phase they have fully supported the resistance program organized rallies and staged peaceful pro-freedom marches across Kashmir to express their political sentiments without fear, and the sacrifices offered by them in the freedom struggle are exemplary and unforgettable as proven by the martyrdom of seven brave women who fell to the bullets of mighty state forces in the last 100 days,” the statement said.

The Hurriyat Conference spokesperson said that as per the protest program, women in various parts of the valley including Sopore, Srinagar, Bandipora, Budgam, Kulgam, Pulwama Shopian took out peaceful pro-freedom rallies, which were once again were met with brute force and might. “As a result more than a dozen women sustained injuries.”

The Hurriyat Conference (m) spokesperson strongly condemned the use of brute force against the women and said, “such repression will not prevent these brace women from pursuing their political rights.”

Meanwhile, The Hurriyat Conference amalgam has strongly criticized the government for playing politics over conduct of examination of students.

“Students are repeatedly pressing for postponement of examination, as is natural in the backdrop of so much of mental and emotional stress that they have been through due to the mass uprising, besides not having been able to complete their syllabus. To pressurize them to take exams in such conditions shows complete lack of concern and indifference towards them,” the statement added. “The least this government can do is spare children’s education from its policy of revenge and arrogance towards the masses and look into the matter taking their concerns and demands into consideration. To use the conduct of exams as a means of ‘establishing normalcy’ and the writ of the state is most base and pathetic.”

The spokesperson strongly condemned the night raids conducted by police in Kralgund area during which 140 persons were arrested, 11 from the same family, ransacking and raiding of houses in Parimpora during which 10 persons including four brother were arrested.

Terming the action of police on Kashmiris as “barbaric”, the Hurriyat Conference reiterated their demand for the unconditional release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, GN Zaki, and thousands of Kashmiri youth from the captivity.
