A lady was killed as India and Pakistan exchanged heavy gunfire and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Reports said that 54-year-old woman died after a mortar shell landed near her.

The borders – IB and LoC in Jammu and Kashmir are witnessing flare up in exchange of fire between the rival armies of India and Pakistan. Many lives have been lost in last few months while scores others have been injured.

On 29 September 2016, the Indian army claimed that it carried out surgical strikes along LoC in Kashmir and since then, the borders are continuously witnessing ceasefire violations.

Reports added that the daughter of the deceased was also injured due to splinter injuries.

Earlier in the day, two more civilians have been injured in the shelling.
