Panic gripped different hamlets of North Kashmir’s Pattan town when Army personnel resorted to massive firing in the middle of the Monday night in Palapora village.

Witnesses told news agency CNS that locals from Hyderbeigh, Yadipora, Palapora and Nilla areas of the town came out from their houses after scores of gun-shots reverberated in air.

Reliable sources said that ASC (Supply Unit) of Army fired scores of rounds targeting trees and shop shutters after they reportedly “observed the movement of some humans in the area”.

“Bullets have hit shutters and trees suggesting that Army men apparently took the movement of animals as militant movement,” said locals.

Commanding Officer ASC (Supply Unit refused to comment on the issue, however, Commander 10 Sector RR, Shabih Hayder Naqvi, said that soldiers had observed some “suspicious” movement and fired some shots in air.
