At least six persons were injured in clashes at Hygam in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.

Reports said the locals had called for Hygam ‘Chalo’ today.

“People were holding a peaceful pro-freedom rally in Hygam village,” local sources said, “Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Baramulla chief Abdul Bhat alias Guru was scheduled to address the rally but he did not come.”

They said that police and CRPF men cordoned off the village and dispersed off the people.

“They fired tear gas shells and pellets during which the civilians were injured,” locals said.

“The youth resorted to stone pelting and clashes ensued,” they said.

The locals alleged that the forces went berserk beating and thrashing civilians.

Heavy clashes were going on in the village when last reports came in.

Meanwhile, reports said that youth resorted to stone pelting in Bandipora district, however, there was no forces action reported. “The protestors blocked Chowks and lanes and lit fire in main Bandipora Chowk,” a local said. “Situation is calm .”

Later responding to this news report, SDPO Sopore told Kashmir Life, “forces were targetted with four petrol bombs by the locals of Hygam.” “Militants also fired upon vehicle of SHO Sopore.”

Note: Kashmir Life contacted SP Sopore for police version about the events which unfolded in Hygam on November 02, 2016. However, he did not respond following which the news item was published.
