A militant was killed and two soldiers were injured in an overnight gunfight that erupted between militants and the security forces in Wangam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, sources said

Details revealed that army and SOG personnel had cordoned off the Wangam village and the boy was killed during the operation

Police identified the slain militant as Saddam Hussain Mir, R/O Chitterpora Shopian. They said they recovered one Ak 47 rifle from encounter site.

“At around 12:30 am we heard a number of gunshots in a narrow lane passing through the village but nobody deared to come out to see the happenings,” a resident of Wangam said. “In the morning we found the lane drenched in blood.”

Residents said the slain was the youngest of three siblings from a well off family. He had left home on September 8. Residents said he was a Hafiz-e-Quran and a Qari. His mother has passed away last year.
