Union Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday gave his approval to form a seven-member committee of experts to look into possible non-lethal alternatives to pump-action guns, or pellet guns.
Reports said the expert panel – to be led by Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs TVSN Prasad – will submit its report in two months.
The use of pellet guns by forces is being condemned in the Valley following grave injuries to hundreds of civilians in the on-going civil uprising.
Rajnath on his two-day visit to the Valley had also announced the setting up of the committee to review use of lethal pellet guns on protesters. (KNS)
