Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) officials are refusing to accept phone bills in South Kashmir’s Shopian district saying they “cannot keep cash with them in the present situation”.

A number of BSNL customers of Shopian said that BSNL officials are denying their bills.

“We are at BSNL office Shopian and officials are not accepting our phone bills,” a customer said adding, “they say that unless and until Banks resume functioning they cannot receive bills.”

Quoting BSNL officials the customer said, “How can we handle cash in present situation?”

BSNL customers of Shopian demanded their service should not be suspended due to non-payment of bills. “Many phones have stopped working because of non-payment of bills,” customers said.

Pertinently, BSNL offices in Srinagar and other parts of the valley remained functioning even during the curfew days.

This reporter tried to contact Deputy Commissioner Shopian on phone but he did not attend the same.
