SRINAGAR

The government has prevented jailed JKLF leader Yasin Malik from meeting his relatives, a party spokesman said.

“Some relatives of chairman JKLF went to Srinagar central jail to meet with the incarcerated leader but where told by the authorities that Yasin Sahib has been banned from meeting anyone,” JKLF said in a statement. The party condemned the “dictatorial order” terming it ridiculous.

Malik was arrested by police on July 8, 2016 from his residence and after keeping him in police custody for 19 days, he was taken to a hospital where doctors advised authorities to admit him in the hospital. “Instead of providing him proper medical care shifted him back to police station from where he was shifted to central jail Srinagar,” the spokesman alleged.

The spokesman said Malik was put behind bars illegally, is being denied any medical facilities and now is being denied meetings with his kith and kin. “All this is a glaring example of the frustration and undemocratic attitude of the so-called rulers who on daily basis speak about democracy and ethics but are actually ruling Jammu Kashmir militarily and have turned this land as a police state,” the spokesman said.
