Burhan Muzaffar Wani, slain militant commander, whose death triggered a renewed mass civil uprising will be “honoured” with “Tamga-e-Azeemat” (Medal of Greatness).

Burhan, who has turned out to be the most popular armed rebel in Kashmir, so far, will be honoured, posthumously by Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani.

“For his dedication, sincerity and bravery,” said Chairperson All Parties Hurriyat Conference (g) Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday, “Shaheed” Burhan will be ‘honoured’.

Slain Burhan will be the first such a militant who will be “honoured for his dedication” in Kashmir’s thirty year old militancy.

Geelani, who is himself under continuous house detention, said, “it is the result of the brave and sincere efforts of Shaheed Burhan Wani that the entire Jammu & Kashmir, from Ladakh to Kishtwar, Doda and from Ramban Banihal to Uri Baramulla, is today on the roads demanding the Right to Self Determination from India.”

“His martyrdom has added a new life to the on-going freedom struggle of Jammu & Kashmir,” the ailing octogenarian.

“He (Burhan) has united and strengthened the pro-freedom voice of this troubled state and the entire nation is feeling pride in paying tributes to this great Mujahid,” Geelani said in a statement issued by the Hurriyat this evening.

While paying rich tributes to the parents of “Shaheed Burhan Muzaffar Wani”, Geelani said that they are the proud parents of a “brave” son.

In the statement, Geelani thanked Turkish Government for supporting and recommending the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) fact-finding team to Jammu & Kashmir and hoped that the other Muslim countries too will raise their voice in support of the demand for Right to Self Determination of the “subjugated” people of Kashmir.

“It is not only human and moral duty of theirs but it is the religious obligation of all the Muslim and Islamic countries of the world to stand and support their oppressed brethren of Jammu Kashmir,” Geelani said.

While commenting over the statement of UNO Chief’s Office that “UNO is continuously monitoring the situations in Jammu & Kashmir”, the Hurriyat Conference (g) Chairperson said, “this world body has so far failed in implementation of its own resolutions in the disputed region of Kashmir.”

Geelani questioned that why is UNO unmoved over the “bloody streets and the genocide of the people of Indian occupied Kashmir? Why is this world body silently watching the brutal killings of the minor children in disputed Jammu & Kashmir at the hands of the Indian occupational forces? Why are they satisfied on just counting and calculating the innocent killings in Kashmir?”

He appealed the UNO including the influential world leaders to come to the rescue of the “oppressed and subjugated” people of Jammu & Kashmir from the “atrocities and brutalities of the Indian cruel forces and impress upon India to cooperate in holding referendum in the troubled state and save the entire South Asia from a distractive war”.
