After a reporter based in Kupwara was shot at with pellets, troopers have thrashed a photo-journalist in South Kashmir on Monday.

Muneeb Ul Islam, who works for Kashmir Reader from South Kashmir, was beaten up by para-military CRPF personnel at Semthan Bijbehara in Islamabad district.

Protests erupted in Semthan area early Monday morning when forces entered the village firing pellets. At least eight persons were injured of which four ladies were shifted to SMHS Srinagar.

Muneeb had reached the spot to cover the protest demonstration and the forces action.

He was thrashed by CRPF personnel.

After the thrashing incident, Muneeb wrote on his Facebook page that he was used as a shield against stones by CRPF personnel. Some people, whom Nuneeb didn’t name, saved him from clutches of CRPF personnel.

The incident comes just a few days after a reporter who was covering a protest demonstration in Kupwara.

Recuperating in SMHS Srinagar, Mir Javid, who reports for Kashmir News Network, said that he was targeted and shot at with pellets.
