Police Monday evening at around 11:00 PM detained Imam of a Masjid and released him on Tuesday afternoon in north Kashmir’s Handwara area.
The members of Masjid Committee Jamia Qadeem, Handwara told KNS that a police party raided the house of Manzoor Ahmad Kirmani, Imam of a Masjid, and arrested him.
They said when they asked the police on what grounds they arrested the Imam, the police said that “Kirmani during his Friday congregation sermon delivered anti-India lecture”.
“He is a very noble soul and we don’t know why they are harassing him,” they said.
SP Handwara when contacted said, “He had spoken objectionably during Friday sermon last Friday and was called to the police station. He was released today (Tuesday) in the afternoon.”
